The Bendigo Heritage Project is managed by unpaid volunteers.
We are a Registered Charity (No 1213994). Our purpose is to advance education for the public benefit, as a means of historical appreciation of the life and achievements of 19th century boxer William Thompson (known as “Bendigo”), seeking to foster greater appreciation of the social history and heritage of the Nottingham area.
This is to be achieved through events, a dedicated website, social media, exhibitions and with the expectation of a permanent public memorial and/or dedicated permanent exhibition as educational resources leading to greater appreciation or to encourage further study or enquiry.
It has a Charitable Trust Deed in place and operates a dedicated bank account.
We rely on donations and sales of our heritage booklet to operate.
In addition to the statue project, we are collecting items of memorabilia in order to preserve the Bendigo story for future generations.
